Permanent food facilities must meet California Retail Food facility code (Cal Code) requirements to be approved for the issuance of a permit to operate. The construction plans are reviewed to ensure that the facility conforms to current Cal Code requirements and the facility layout and equipment will allow for safe sanitary food services as required by law.
Plans must be approved by EHS before starting any new construction or remodeling of any facility used for food handling and sales. Therefore, anyone proposing to build or remodel a food facility must submit complete, easily readable plans drawn to scale, and specification sheets to Environmental health services for review. Accurate and complete plan submittal will facilitate the plan review process.
The information provided on this page contains detailed information on what should be included on the plans. Please read it carefully. The plans should show exactly how the food facilities will be constructed.
