The Department of Elections is calling on students across Marin County to volunteer as Elections Ambassadors, serving as a critical link between our department and Marin students.

The Marin County Elections Department, Marin League of Women Voters (LWV), and the Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) have joined forces to annually recruit civic-minded students who are interested in the electoral process.

To be eligible, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Students: A student who lives in Marin County or attends a Marin County school.
  2. Recent School Grads: Anyone aged 25 or younger who considers Marin County their home/community. There are no requirements to be enrolled in a college/university or currently live in Marin County.

About the Program

This program was established in 2018 when a Marin County high school student named Cameron introduced the concept and worked with the Elections Department to establish the Student Elections Ambassador Program.

The student-led approach is the core of this program where student ambassadors are taught about the importance and fundamentals of voting, and then through a peer-to-peer approach, educate their classmates about the process. Today, the program has expanded to include all young adults who consider Marin County their community.

The Marin County Elections Department, the Marin League of Women Voters, and the Marin Office of Education work together to provide training and support to the student volunteer ambassadors.

Program Objectives

The Student Elections Ambassador Program has two main objectives:

  1. To pre-register and register Marin County students to vote.
  2. To highlight the importance of youth engagement and participation in local, state, and federal elections.

What’s In It For You?

As an ambassador, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate leadership skills;
  • Receive county-wide recognition;
  • Participate in civic-minded activities and play an important role in your local community;
  • Earn community service hours (if approved by your school).
  • Become a League of Women Voters complimentary member.

We will ensure that you have all the resources and tools to carry out your outreach event(s), pre-register and register other students, while also encouraging peers to volunteer to work at the polls.
