All Marin County Free Library branches will be closed December 25 and January 1 and most will be open until 1 p.m. December 24 and December 31. Three of the branches – Bolinas, Point Reyes and South Novato – will be closed all day on December 24 and December 31 because they normally don’t open until the afternoons on Thursdays.

Same-day recordings will be accepted until 11:30 a.m. December 31 at the Recorder’s Office, located at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. However, to ensure a calendar year 2015 recording date, residents are urged to present documents no later than 11 a.m. that day. Any documents that cannot be examined and approved for recording prior to the 11:30 a.m. December 31 deadline will be accepted for recording on January 4, 2016, or returned to the submitter.

Transactions at the County Clerk’s office will be accepted for processing until 11:30 a.m. December 31 as well, and property taxes may be paid at the Tax Collector’s Office until noon that day.

Though their administration offices will be closed, the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department will be staffed Christmas and New Year’s Day to ensure public safety and emergency services throughout Marin. Road crews and flood control crews from the Department of Public Works also will be ready to respond to infrastructure and emergency needs.

In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services will continue to have 24/7 on-call staff though the holidays for crisis and emergency response.

As part of its #OptOutside campaign, Marin County Parks offers free entry into the County’s three regional parks from December 1 through January 1. Normally the parks have entry and/or parking fees, but those are waived through New Year’s Day at McNears Beach in San Rafael, Paradise Beach in Tiburon, and Stafford Lake in Novato. The gift provides recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, especially for those who do not typically visit parks that charge entry fees. It’s a prime chance to enjoy fishing, kite flying, picnicking, bird watching, kayaking, and disc golfing.

The new and very popular Stafford Lake Bike Park will be the perfect spot to visit for anyone who gets a new mountain bike as a holiday gift. Note that the bike park is closed during and after big storms. Find out about any Stafford Lake Bike Park alert and closure information by calling (415) 473–JUMP (5867).

The County of Marin wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!
