San Rafael, CA – To accelerate access to fall flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines, Marin County Public Health has re-engaged a trusted corporate partner. Safeway, Marin County Public Health, and Marin Community Clinics have joined forces to provide adult vaccines on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 4 PM for those aged 19 and older at the Marin Health and Wellness Campus at 3240 Kerner Boulevard in San Rafael.
While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are welcome.
The clinics have been added to address concerns about equal access after the federal commercialization of COVID-19 vaccines this fall. Vaccines are no longer available to or distributed through governmental public health agencies. Distribution and supply shortages, and a reliance on commercial outlets, have disproportionally impacted low-income residents and communities of color. Preliminary data on uptake of fall COVID-19 vaccines in Marin show white and Asian residents have four times higher rates than their African American and Latinx counterparts. That is the widest disparity between racial groups since the start of the pandemic.
“Safeway is a trusted pharmacy partner, and we are thrilled that it is able to bring vaccines directly into communities that need it most,” said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin County Public Health Officer. “As the COVID-19 vaccine has been commercialized, Public Health is increasingly reliant on commercial partners to reach all of our residents.”
Depending on demand, additional clinics may be established in late fall.

Clinic Eligibility
The clinics are open to all insured adults aged 19 and older. Medi-Cal insured individuals are also eligible. (Kaiser members should be aware Kaiser will not cover the cost of vaccines administered outside of its clinics.) The RSV vaccine is available for those 60 and older, but not all insurance will cover the cost, so individuals should check with their insurance plan.

Uninsured Individuals
Uninsured individuals should obtain shots through the Bridge Access Program and at federally qualified health centers. The best way to access the vaccine is by appointment through vaccines.gov, CVS and Walgreens.
Vaccination for Children
COVID-19 vaccines remain free for most Americans through their health insurance plans or through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, which provides recommended vaccines and immunizations at no cost. Pharmacies will vaccinate children 3 and older; families with younger children should check with their pediatrician.
Kaiser Members
The updated COVID-19 vaccine is available at no cost for members at Kaiser Permanente facilities and is now available at most flu clinics. No appointments needed.
