Public Works’ Online Auction Starts February 3

Marin County to offer below-market deals, including hybrid cars

San Rafael, CA – A range of vehicles and equipment will be available for public purchase starting Saturday, February 3, when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction. The selection includes pickup generators, pickup trucks and cars such as 2003 and 2005 Honda Civic hybrids.

Surplus vehicles and equipment are being offered at below resell value. The auction is hosted by www.publicsurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling surplus government property to the public.

As Marin County is committed to environmental awareness and fiscally responsible spending, the County fleet continues to be reduced. Sold vehicles with high fuel consumption or excessive particulate emissions are  if possible, replaced by more environmentally friendly options. The County fleet includes more than 80 hybrids and eight electric vehicles. Renewable diesel fuel and solar powered charging stations are also used to reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint.

The auction begins at midnight Saturday, February 3, and closes at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 10. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins. Vehicles along with corresponding service records are available for viewing Tuesday, February 6, through Thursday, February 8, from noon to 3 p.m. at the County Public Works garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael.

All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final; it is the buyer’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase. Payment must be received by Public Surplus within five business days of the auction’s close, and vehicles must be picked up weekdays between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. within five business days of receipt of payment.
