Dillon Beach, CA – A fire in dune grass charred five acres April 15 near the West Marin community of Dillon Beach, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place order for nearby campers at Lawson’s Landing Resort. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.
The fire burned near Cliff Drive in Dillon Beach.

Marin County Fire Department dispatchers received several calls for a fire burning in dune grass off Cliff Street, across the street from 19 structures, according to Battalion Chief Bret McTigue. About 25 personnel responded from various agencies and stopped the fire’s progress at about 10 p.m.; containment was achieved at 11:30 p.m.
The fire was near the northwest corner of Marin County near the northern tip of Tomales Bay. Assisting Marin County Fire with the control efforts were firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE), Tomales Volunteer Fire, Wilmar Fire, U.S. Coast Guard Two Rock Fire, Bodega Bay Fire, and Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“This early-season fire is a good reminder to maintain defensible space around homes and property,” McTigue said.
