San Rafael, CA – Vehicles and many different types of equipment will be available for public purchase starting May 14 when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction.
Sedans, SUVs, a couple of dump trucks and even a red fire engine are among the items offered for sale. All vehicles and equipment will be available through www.publicsurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling government property to the public.
As the County remains committed to environmental and fiscally responsible spending, the County fleet is continually being trimmed. Vehicles with high fuel consumption are being sold and if possible replaced by hybrids or flex-fuel option vehicles. The County fleet now has almost 70 hybrid and/or electric vehicles.
The auction begins at midnight Saturday, May 14, and closes at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins. Vehicles and their corresponding service records will be available for inspection Tuesday, May 17, through Thursday, May 19, from noon to 3 p.m. at the County Garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael. All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final; it is the bidder’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase.
