Woodacre, CA – Are you willing to donate your time and talent and save lives with your music? Now is your chance.
If you are part of a duet, trio or band of no more than five members, you may be able to participate in a public service video from the County of Marin that will teach everyday folks how to do CPR. The Marin County Fire Department and Marin County Health and Human Services are combining forces for their annual campaign to promote hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aka CPR.
Musicians are invited to perform a version of the disco smash hit “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees and share your video with us. The original song from “Saturday Night Fever” thumps along at 100 beats per minute, exactly how fast a person would pump a chest when doing CPR.
Here’s the twist: We want to see your demo video clips done in YOUR genre. If you are a jazz quartet, get hip to the beat. If you are a metalhead, crank it to 11. If you’re a tie-dyed jam band, channel the Dead while “Stayin’ Alive.” Whether its rap, blues, Latin, ska, classical – just keep it at 100 BPM.
The second twist: The deadline to send your video is May 7.
Here’s how to submit:
- Set up your video camera for a wide shot of you or your music group.
- Make sure the audio isn’t so loud that the music distorts when played back.
- Record at least 30 seconds of your creative and fun version of “Stayin’ Alive.”
- Send your video clip with “CPR Video” in the subject line to mgiannini@marincounty.org.
The winning musicians will be invited to participate in a music video production filmed by a professional crew May 17 on Mount Tamalpais. Musicians must be available to participate that day. The final edited video will be used as an educational tool to help train thousands of people how to do CPR. Although the participants won’t be paid, they will be thanked profusely for their contributions to this life-saving cause and promoted widely by County government.
