Going to County Fair? Take Bus, Train or Bike

Free Marin Transit buses, late SMART trains, and bike valet service available June 30 through July 4

San Rafael, CA – Visitors to the 2023 Marin County Fair should consider bus service, train service, or pedal power when arriving at or leaving from the Marin County fairgrounds in San Rafael.

All fixed-route bus rides countywide will be free all five days of the fair, which starts Friday, June 30, and runs through the Fourth of July. It’s a wonderful partnership between Marin Transit and the Marin County Department of Cultural Services, who produces the Marin County Fair.

There will be additional buses and operational hours during the five-day fair, located just off Civic Center Drive in San Rafael. Riders should note that the Paratransit, Catch-A-Ride, and Muir Woods Shuttle services will be exempt from the free fares.

Fair guests can also ride the SMART train directly to the Marin County Civic Center campus. In addition to its regular schedule, SMART will provide late-night service after the fireworks. Trains will depart Civic Center Station southbound at 10:05 p.m. and northbound at 10:10 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Make sure to check transit schedules for pricing and timing as the SMART schedule is subject to change.

Marin County Bicycle Coalition will offer free bike valet service from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. The bike lot will be near the main gate in front of the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium.

Golden Gate Transit also offers stops at the Marin County Civic Center.

“We encourage fairgoers to leave their cars at home and take advantage of transit options,” said Cultural Services Director Gabriella Calicchio. “Partnerships with Marin Transit, SMART, and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition allow myriad transportation alternatives!”

Vehicle and motorcycle parking is $20 in all County parking lots. The parking operation is cashless, so visitors choosing that option should bring a credit card.
