Parks Seeks Two Representatives for Committee

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Parks Measure A Community Oversight Committee  is seeking two volunteers to help monitor the use of revenue from a quarter-cent countywide sales tax that supports parks, open spaces, sustainable agriculture, and recreation in Marin’s municipalities and unincorporated areas.

Marin County Parks is seeking one volunteer knowledgeable about agriculture conservation practices and food systems; and one to represent the community at-large with knowledge of park and open space practices and financial accountability. The application deadline is 5 p.m. September 22.

Marin voters approved the Marin Parks, Open Space and Sustainable Agriculture Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance (Marin County Ordinance 3586) in November 2012. In June 2022, County voters approved re-implementation of Parks Measure A. The ordinance generates additional revenues for the purpose described in the ordinance’s expenditure plan. Measure A funds can't be used for any other purpose.

The committee reviews expenditures of Measure A funds on an annual basis to ensure they conform with the expenditure plan. It also works with staff to oversee annual audits and to prepare an annual report describing how funds were spent.

All committee members must be Marin residents who are neither elected officials of any government body nor employees from agencies or organizations that either oversee or benefit from the tax receipts of Measure A.
