DUI Offender Check Finds 4 Non-Compliant

Occasional unannounced probation enforcements part of public safety routine

San Rafael, CA – To further ensure the community's safety, the Marin County Probation Department coordinated a sweep of 39 DUI offenders' residences on Thursday, September 29, and found all but four to be compliant with court-ordered terms.

Five teams comprised of probation and local law enforcement officers searched the homes and vehicles of 17 convicted offenders to check compliance and find which clients need further rehabilitation resources. Thirty-five of 39 contacts were found to be compliant, and the four in violation will be scheduled to appear before the court to determine possible jail sanctions.

Probation Chief Marlon Washington said the focus on limiting alcohol-related incidents continues to be a priority considering Marin’s collective increase in alcohol consumption, which necessitates increased monitoring of past offenders.

"Due to the previous success of these coordinated sweeps, the department expanded the scope of the operation to include more potential at-risk offenders," Washington said. “In-person compliance checks are paramount to continued community safety.”
