Energy-Saving Moves Help Make Marin Resilient

Webinars coming up to cover all the options, including rebates

San Rafael, CA – When it comes to making energy efficiency, sustainability, and resiliency improvements to your home, there are a lot of programs and resources available. The County of Marin’s Sustainability Team promotes programs that provide rebates, no-cost kits for both homeowners and renters, and several free webinars are coming up to go over the options.

An array of home energy efficient products are arranged on a table. These are some of the products available from Rising Sun Center for Opportunity’s Green House Call program.

The webinars will feature subject matter experts from the nonprofit and government sectors discussing energy efficiency and resiliency strategies for renters in Marin and the programs that can help. Program information and material will be available at www.marinsustainability.org after the webinars.

Here is the webinar schedule:

Speakers and programs at the workshops will include:

  • Rising Sun Center for Opportunity – Green House Call program
  • MCE Clean Energy – Home Energy Savings program
  • Resilient Neighborhoods – Program overview and home resiliency strategies
  • Ohm Connect – Demand response and smart thermostat program
  • Community Action Marin – Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

While the webinar information will be geared toward the renter audience, all are welcome to join.

Want to get started saving energy in your home now? Tenants do have the power to make some energy-saving changes to their homes including replacing incandescent and CFL light bulbs to LEDs, installing smart power strips, and installing low-flow faucet aerators and shower heads. And right now, Marin renters can receive all of those items plus an energy and water use consultation all at no-cost through the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity’s Green House Call program.

Rising Sun is a local nonprofit that hires local college and high school-aged youths to provide the no-cost Green House Call program to Bay Area residents. Marin renters and homeowners can participate by filling out a quick energy and water use survey. After completing the survey, residents will receive an energy saving kit in the mail, all at no cost.
