At-Large Volunteer Needed for Oversight Committee

Expertise needed on Parks, Open Space, and Farmland Preservation group

San Rafael, CA – There is one vacancy on the Marin County Measure A (Parks) Community Oversight Committee, which reviews annual expenses for a countywide tax measure. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, December 3.

Marin voters approved the Marin Parks, Open Space and Farmland Preservation Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance (Marin County Ordinance 3586) on November 6, 2012. Measure A's quarter-cent sales tax supports parks, open space, and agricultural lands across Marin. Measure A funds can't be used for any other purpose.

The volunteer committee reviews expenditures at the end of each year to ensure conformity with the Ordinance 3586 Expenditure Plan and assists County staff in overseeing annual audits and preparation of an annual report that describes how funds were spent. The committee meets twice a year on the second Thursday in November and February.

Applicants shall possess working knowledge in subject areas and disciplines beneficial to the work of the committee, such as financial management and reporting, public agency administration, and the provision of public park and open space services. All committee members must be Marin residents who are neither elected officials of any government body nor employees from agencies or organizations that either oversee or benefit from the tax receipts of Measure A.
