Board of Supervisors Agenda Items Postponed

Topic of Coast Guard housing reuse delayed; no Housing Authority meeting

San Rafael, CA – Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marin County Board of Supervisors has postponed agenda items for its March 17 meeting deemed nonessential, including all afternoon items. Among those items being rescheduled to future dates is a session about the potential affordable housing at a former U.S. Coast Guard facility in Point Reyes Station.

The County opted to postpone the Marin Housing Authority Board of Commissioners session that was scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. plus Board of Supervisors items later on the same afternoon about Luiz Ranch in Lucas Valley, funding for an affordable housing property in Bolinas, and the consideration on the reuse of the long-closed Coast Guard property. All postponed agenda items will be rescheduled for dates to be determined later.

The Board is permitted to adjust its agenda under emergency conditions and under the guidance of attorneys from the Marin County Counsel’s Office. County staff also will postpone its budget workshops that had been scheduled for March 23-25.

“The coronavirus situation continues to evolve, as are guidance and recommendations coming from our public health officer,” said Board President Katie Rice. “We are trying to adapt our public decision-making processes while keeping our residents and employees safe. It’s a time to be cautious, but our intention is to be thoughtful while also continuing to conduct the essential business of government.”

The Board staff is working to accommodate residents who would like to participate in Board meetings but are concerned about restrictions on public gatherings. The Supervisors plan on continue holding their meetings in the Marin County Civic Center’s Board chamber in San Rafael to conduct essential business during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive emailed COVID-19 updates in their inbox.
