Parking fees, normally $10, to be waived over Memorial Day weekend

San Rafael, CA – To honor military veterans over Memorial Day weekend, Marin County Parks is providing free entry to three regional parks for veterans and active duty members of the armed forces. From Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 the regular $10 parking fee will be waived for vets at McNears Beach Park in San Rafael, Stafford Lake Park near Novato and Paradise Beach Park on the Tiburon Peninsula.

The free entry covers up to 10 people riding with a veteran or active-duty military personnel in any passenger vehicle. The vet will need to show a valid military ID card, a Veterans Administration card or an honorable discharge record at the entry gate. Marin County residency is not required.

“Providing veterans and their families a discount like this is really appreciated,” said Sean Stephens, the County of Marin’s Veterans Services Officer and a U.S. Army veteran who serve four combat tours in the Middle East. “Recreation and socialization are incredibly important for the health of our veterans, and Marin County Parks offers some beautiful locations to get families together for fun and relaxation.”

The fee waiver is funded by Measure A, a quarter-cent sales tax in Marin County that supports parks, open space, and agricultural lands across Marin. Since 2013, Measure A funds have supported park and preserve maintenance and improvements, vegetation and wildland fire fuel management, habitat preservation, and public programs in parks and preserves.

The free entry does not include parking at the Miller Boat Launch in Marshall or the Black Point Boat Launch in Novato.
