San Rafael, CA – Who’s up for trying something new, donating some time for a great cause, and basking in the resulting feel-good glow?
Two County of Marin departments – Human Resources and Marin County Parks – are participating in the second annual Marin Volunteer Fair on Saturday, September 7, at Lagoon Park in San Rafael. It’s hosted by the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Children’s Island.
Human Resources’ Marin Shares volunteer group and Marinterns program for students, along with cohorts from Parks, will be present to offer ways for residents to connect with local county government.
In addition, the Marin County Civil Grand Jury will join the outreach effort. All 58 California counties have a civil grand jury, an independent "watchdog" investigative body designed to monitor the performance of local government and make recommendations that can save taxpayer dollars and improve services. Volunteers serve a one-year term on the civil grand jury.
The fair is the perfect place for individuals to connect with local nonprofits and find impactful volunteer opportunities. It’s a chance to connect for students in need of volunteer hours, families looking for a fun group activity, those who have recently retired from work, or those inspired to give back.
Some of the nonprofits that will be present include San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, Ceres Community Project, Whistlestop, Halleck Creek Ranch, Community Action Marin, and National Park Service / Point Reyes National Seashore. There will be trivia, arts & crafts, planting native plants, storytelling, and other fun activities for youngsters. Lunch and other refreshments will be available at food trucks in attendance.
