Marin Fire Agencies Extinguish Structure Fire at Point Reyes Lodge

Numerous rooms and lobby damaged; no injuries sustained

Woodacre, CA – Marin County fire agencies responded to a structure fire at the iconic Olema House (formerly the Lodge at Point Reyes) late on Friday, October 25. The fire and water damage was limited to four rooms, the lodge lobby, the guest lounge, and the attic. All guests were evacuated and no one was injured.

At 11:08 p.m., the Marin County Fire Department was dispatched to the lodge as it was being evacuated, with heavy smoke showing from the roof. A second alarm was requested. The fire was controlled by 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

“This is a testament of the importance of integrated alarm and detection systems,” said Battalion Chief Bret McTigue of the Marin County Fire Department.

The lodge staff made accommodations for the displaced guests.

The fire response came from Marin County Fire, Inverness Fire, Bolinas Fire, and Stinson Beach Fire. The Marin County Sheriff's Office provided additional support to secure the scene.

“Increased staffing due to heightened fire danger allowed for additional firefighters to respond quickly to the scene from the Point Reyes Fire Station,” said Battalion Chief Chris Martinelli of the Marin County Fire Department.
