Fairfax, CA -- Six fire agencies responded to a structure fire and associated wildfire in a Fairfax townhome complex on the evening of August 27. One dog was killed and several people sustained minor injuries, according to the Ross Valley Fire Department.
At 5:56 p.m., Ross Valley Fire was dispatched to Ace Court in the Canon Village neighborhood after multiple reports were called in about a fire in a townhome. The first arriving crew found one townhome fully involved, so a second alarm was called because of the fire’s close proximity of other townhomes. The fire spread into the wildland area behind the residences, and the incident commander requested a wildland fire response to the scene.
After crews from Marin County Fire Department extinguished the small wildland fire behind the structure fire, a third alarm was called to give relief to the initial firefighters.
One townhome was destroyed and two others sustained major damage. There were no injuries to firefighters, but there were minor injuries to residents. They were treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization. Marin Humane assisted the owner of the dog that died.
Fire agencies from Ross Valley, Marin County, San Rafael, Central Marin, Southern Marin, and Kentfield responded to the fires and covered stations while crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
