Voter Registration Drive in the Park.
San Rafael, CA– National Voter Registration Day is September 27, and the
Marin County Elections Department is planning a series of nonpartisan events to mark the occasion.
Traditionally Marin County has a high voter participation rate, but according to data provided by the Secretary of State’s Office, residents who are eligible but not registered to vote number more than 20,000.
“We want to reach those who are eligible but not registered to vote by raising awareness in various communities,” said Marin County Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts.
Events in Marin will be held during the week of September 25 through October 1. This year’s partners include: YWCA of San Francisco and Marin; College of Marin Drama Department; Latino Marin; the League of Women Voters of Marin County; Dominican University’s Political Science Department; and West Marin Community Services District.
“Over the past year, the public has been bombarded with campaign information, and the community is ready to use its voice and vote,” said Veda Florez, Communications Outreach Consultant for the Elections Department. “Voter registration events are one way to help people use their voice.”
Events will be held in various locations, including Novato and San Rafael farmers markets, Dominican University and the College of Marin campus.
This year the Elections Department would like nonprofits that normally would not get involved with voter registration to add a link on their websites so people can register online. The link, www.sos.ca.gov, will connect people to the California Secretary of State’s website, which provides the online voter registration form. Groups are encouraged to keep the link active through October 24, which is the last day to register for the November 8 election.
