Registrar: Voter Turnout About 65 Percent

Mail ballots from June 7 election counted; working on provisional ballots

San Rafael, CA – With nearly 23,000 mail ballots counted since election night, June 7, the Marin County Elections Department has turned its attention to processing the 5,700 provisional ballots. It appears that the final countywide turnout in this election will be about 65 percent, according to Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts.

“The bulk of our work now is processing provisional ballots,” she said. “This is very labor-intensive and will take about another week.”

In addition to processing and counting provisional ballots, the Elections Department started the one percent manual tally on June 22 and expects to complete it by June 24. The purpose of the manual tally of a random selection of the precincts is to verify the accuracy of the automated count.

The election must be certified no later than July 7. Roberts said she would like to finish prior to the last day, but says there is still a lot of work to do. “Being thorough and accurate is most important,” she said.
