Free Viewing of McNears Beach Park Plans

San Rafael location due for upgrades; Share your thoughts April 19

San Rafael, CA – Marin County Parks invites you to enjoy McNears Beach Park for free on Sunday, April 19, and be among the first to view and comment on draft plans for the future of the park.

A view of several people hanging out near the pier at McNears Beach ParkMcNears Beach Park, on the eastern shore of unincorporated San Rafael along San Francisco Bay, offers a beautiful setting for community members to enjoy socializing or a good book, play lawn games and tennis, launch paddle boats, fish and enjoy spectacular views of the bay. The park offers lush green lawns and is typically warm and less windy compared with the surrounding shoreline. Take a closer look at the bay with a walk along the beach or on the pier. Bring some food and a blanket and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Visit the park for free – a $5 per car savings – to celebrate this enjoyable outdoor space and comment on draft future plans for facility upgrades. Landscape architects from Marin County Parks and the landscape architecture firm Office of Cheryl Barton will be on hand from 1-3 p.m. in the McNears snack bar to listen to feedback and discuss the master plan with visitors. It’s a chance to review some of the site information that will inform the master plan, explain what McNears means to you, and share some of your ideas about the types of activities and features that can make the park unique.

Also, the free entrance that day is a perfect opportunity for families and friends to visit if you’ve never been to the park. We’d like to hear from frequent visitors as well.

McNears Beach Park is one of three regional parks undergoing long-awaited master planning thanks to Measure A, a quarter-cent retail tax approved by Marin County voters in 2012. The parks haven’t seen significant upgrades since the 1970s. Each master plan will result in a community-inspired vision shaping the future of park facilities.
