San Rafael, CA – August is Child Support Awareness Month in California, and this year’s theme is “Giving them roots to reach for the sky.”
To celebrate, the Marin County Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is acknowledging parents who pay child support. So far this fiscal year, 78.6 percent of the child support owed through the Marin office was paid within the month it was due, amounting to nearly $7 million worth stable and reliable financial support for our community’s children.
“Thank you for your consistent monthly payments and your ongoing financial commitment to your children,” Jill Francis, Director of Child Support Services, said in a message to Marin residents. “We also thank you for your continual communication with our office so that we may work together to best meet your children’s needs. It is an honor to serve you.”
Marin DCSS, based in Novato, provides the following services: determining parentage; establishing orders for monthly child support and health insurance coverage; collecting current and past due support; and reviewing existing orders for possible adjustment when needed to reflect the current financial circumstances of the family. Children grow and thrive with the commitment of family members to provide for their emotional needs, physical needs, and opportunities to enrich their minds.
Marin DCSS has a proven track record of excellent service. For more than 10 years, it has been ranked as one of the top 10 local child support agencies in the state and among the top three since 2011.
“We did not achieve this level of excellence on our own,” Francis said. “We work collaboratively with parents, their employers, our local court and family law practitioners, other County departments, and several community-based organizations to place the interests of children first.”
