County's Climate Planning Goals for 2020 in Sight

April 14 public meeting to address greenhouse gas emissions

San Rafael, CA – In its original Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, drafted in 2006, the County of Marin set an emissions reduction target of 15 percent below 1990 levels by 2020. Now, as County Community Development Agency staff updates the plan, residents are being invited to learn more about it and contribute their input.

A community meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall so staff can provide details about the progress made in reducing emissions and give the residents a chance to provide input about what other strategies the County should consider to reduce emissions. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.

As part of the update effort, the County is completing an inventory of the greenhouse gas emissions from the unincorporated portions of the county in 2012 to compare with historic 1990 emissions levels to determine if the County is on track with original goals. The updated plan will review and revise the emissions reductions strategies to reflect current opportunities and constraints.

Funding for the updated Climate Action Plan is provided by the Marin Energy Watch Partnership between the County and Pacific Gas and Electric Company as part of the partnership’s work toward achieving long-term energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

Marin Center Exhibit Hall is at 10 Avenue of the Flags in San Rafael, behind the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
