MARIN COUNTY ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT NOTICE OF ELECTION, OFFICES ON BALLOT, AND CANDIDATE FILING DEADLINES

March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO ALL QUALIFIED PERSONS that the Statewide Presidential Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. The nomination period for the following federal, state and local offices will open on Monday, November 11 and end on Friday, December 6, 2019. November 11 falls on a holiday so filing will start on the next business day.

U.S. Representative in Congress – District 2 2 years
California State Assembly Member – District 10 2 years
Qualifications: Contact Elections Department for information about qualifications.
County Central Committee Term
Committee Member Determined by Central Committee
Qualifications: Contact Elections Department for information about qualifications.
Superior Court Judge Term
Office No. 1 6 years
Office No. 2 6 years
Office No. 3 6 years
Qualifications: Must be a member of the State Bar or judge of a court of record in California for the preceding 10 years. Must have filed Declaration of Intention by November 6, 2019.
County Board of Supervisors Term
District 2 4 years
District 3 4 years
District 4 4 years
Qualifications: Must be a registered voter of the district which he/she seeks to represent for at least 30 days immediately preceding the deadline for filing nomination documents for the office of supervisor. Shall reside in the district during his/her incumbency.
Special Districts Term
Almonte Sanitary District Director, 3 seats 4 years
Sanitary District No. 1 Director, 2 seats 4 years
Qualifications: Must reside in and be registered voter in the district.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the official Declaration of Candidacy forms for eligible candidates are available at the Marin County Elections Department, Room 121, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, California, from Tuesday, November 12 to Friday, December 6, 2019. Candidates may file their Declaration of Candidacy forms weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019. In the event that an incumbent officeholder does not file for his/her office by December 6, 2019, the filing period will be extended for non-incumbent candidates for that office until 5 p.m. December 11, 2019.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that if there are no nominees or an insufficient number of nominees for any district office and a petition signed by 10 percent of the voters (or 50 voters, whichever is less) of the Special District requesting an election be held is not presented to the Elections Department, an appointment to the elective office will be made by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to Sec. 10515 of the CA Elections Code.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that all ballots cast at the polls in the Presidential Primary Election will be counted at the Elections Department and ballots cast by mail will be counted at the Elections Department.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN THAT the first day to vote at the Marin Civic Center, and the first day for the Registrar of Voters to mail vote-by-mail ballots for the Presidential Primary Election is February 3, 2020. The Marin Civic Center is located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Room 121, San Rafael, California, 94903.
