Register 5 Marin Program Gains Momentum

‘Take the Challenge’ and help register others to vote

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Elections Department recently rolled out a new program for National Voter Registration Day called Register 5 Marin, which encourages registered voters to “Take the Challenge” and register five people to vote. So far, more than 40 people have accepted the challenge, resulting in at least 200 more registered voters in Marin County.

The Elections Department is recruiting additional participants before the October 22 registration deadline for the statewide November 6 General Election. After October 22, prospective voters will be required to register and vote in the Elections Department at the Marin County Civic Center. New registrations may include pre-registering 16- and 17-year olds.

Traditionally Marin County has a high voter participation rate, but according to data provided by the California Secretary of State’s Office, local residents who are eligible but not registered to vote has numbered over 20,000.

“Voter outreach and registration efforts take more than just a few people or the Elections Department staff,” said Marin County Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts. “It takes a village – in this case residents of Marin County who want to help others exercise their right to vote.”

The program is the creation of Veda Florez, a communications consultant working with the Elections Department. Email Florez at marinelections360@gmail.com for more information.
