CITIES/TOWNS
Nomination documents for candidates for office in the Cities/Towns of Fairfax, Larkspur, Novato, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito, and Tiburon are available only at the respective offices of the City/Town Clerks. Check with City/Town Clerk for hours and procedures.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the nomination period for this election is from Monday, July 17 to Friday, August 11. Candidates (except for city/town offices) may pick up and file their Declaration of Candidacy forms at the Marin County Elections Department, Room 121, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, CA. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be open until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 11. If an incumbent officeholder does not file for his/her district office by August 11, the filing period for that office will be extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, for non-incumbent candidates only.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that if there are not enough candidates to fill a district’s open seats, there will be no election unless a petition requesting an election is submitted to the Elections Department by Wednesday, August 16 at 5 p.m. The petition must be signed by 10 percent of the district’s voters or 50 voters, whichever is less. Instead of an election, the Board of Supervisors will appoint the candidates who have filed nomination papers. If any open seats remain, they will be filled by appointment as follows: For school districts, by the Governing Board of the School District; for special districts, by the Board of Supervisors. (Ed. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Eligible residents who are not registered by Monday, October 23, may deliver a properly executed affidavit of registration to the Elections Department between October 24 and 8 p.m. on Election Day, and cast a conditional provisional ballot in the Department.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Elections Department will begin mailing Vote by Mail ballots on Monday, October 9, 2017, and will begin opening them on Tuesday, October 24 at the Marin Civic Center, Room 121, San Rafael, CA.
