Routine Accuracy Check Follows School Tax Vote

Manual tally to confirm May 3 election in Larkspur-Corte Madera School District

San Rafael, CA - To verify the accuracy of vote-counting automation, the Marin County Elections Department will randomly select a small portion of ballots for hand counting on May 10 from an election in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District. The process is open to the public.

Pursuant to California Elections Code §15360, the Election Officer – in this case, Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts – will conduct a public manual tally of a random selection of ballots at 9 a.m. May 10. The vote-by-mail special election for Measure A was held May 3 to support a parcel tax for education. With a two-thirds majority required for passage, the automated results showed 66.97 percent yes votes to 33.03 percent no votes.

The tally will take place in the Elections Department office in Suite 121 of the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Manual tally totals will be compared to the automated system count to verify the system’s accuracy. Roberts has the discretion to select more than one percent of ballots for hand-counting.

Information about the post-election canvass is available on our website under Election Information, Policies and Procedures.
