San Rafael, CA - Smartphone users in Marin County can quickly connect with all the information they’ll need to make decisions about the November 4 general election.
A website built for smartphones debuted a year ago in Marin and has been updated for next month’s election to help voters make their choices about political candidates and ballot measures.
The site was developed by the Marin County Information Services and Technology (IST) Department team. Voters can study the candidates and issues and then fill out a sample ballot with all their choices, saving it to pull out in the polling station or for filling out a mail-in ballot. If the website is used from a desktop or laptop computer, the choices list can be printed out instead.
“Smart phones are becoming our information centers, so this specially-designed website will allow voters to review election issues at their total convenience,” said Lynda Roberts, Marin County’s Registrar of Voters. “We want everyone to feel prepared to vote on November 4.”
Users will find candidate statements, background on ballot measures, polling place locations and links to the State of California Elections Office for those who have not registered to vote.
The County first offered a smartphone application in November 2012 for iPhones and Androids. As of November 2013, the smartphone-friendly website replaces the phone app.
“People really liked it and used it the past two years,” said Chris White of the IST web development team. “We saw a big increase in usage last year because we made it available on any smartphone, Kindle, Nook, PC or Mac. It has an app look to it and is easy to use.”
The County will continue to offer printed voter guides for future elections.
