Permit Applications, Express and e-Permitting

Certain building permit applications are available through Express and e-Permitting.  Express and e-Permitting offer our customers same day plan review for some types of small projects, and greater latitude in choosing Third party or Overtime plan review.

Online building inspection services are also available for contractors interested in speedy inspection responses through self-certification for certain types of inspections. Overtime or third party inspection requests are also available for those seeking to have even greater control over inspection scheduling (subject to additional fees). And contractors and homeowners can utilize the Friday Drop Off Box for smaller permit applications that require just a few plans, or those normally issued over the counter.

For more information on how to use these efficient permitting options, watch the video on permit options or drop us an email with your questions.

Permit Fees

The fees for obtaining building permits are collected in two stages. Permit application fees are collected at the time of submittal, and typically include Building Division Plan Review Fees and Planning Review Fees of Building Permits. Permit issuance fees include the all inspection fees and State Fees. Other fees may include a Planning Division surcharge on new structures, Site and Encroachment Permit Fees by the Department of Public Works, and Environmental Health Services Review Fee of Building Permits. School Fees may be collected by the local school district prior to issuance of a permit. When the work is started prior to issuance of a Building Permit, an investigation fee shall be collected which is equal to the preliminary investigation and enforcement costs of the Community Development Agency.
