Marin County Offices Closed for Holidays

Get year-end documents to the Recorder’s Office by December 30

San Rafael, CA – Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve fall on Saturdays this season,  and Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Sundays, so it’s no surprise that most County of Marin offices and Marin Superior Courtrooms will be closed. But here’s a reminder: The holidays will be observed with additional closures on Monday, December 26, and Monday, January 2.

All 10 Marin County Free Library branches will be closed December 25, December 26, January 1 and January 2. Branches will have regular hours on December 24 and 31 except Fairfax, which is closing at 5 p.m. instead of the usual 6 p.m. both days.

If you need to process timely documents related to the ownership of real estate, same-day recordings will be accepted until 3 p.m. December 30 at the Recorder’s Office, located at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. However, to ensure a calendar year 2016 recording date, residents are urged to present documents no later than 1 p.m. that day. Documents that cannot be examined and approved for recording prior to the 3 p.m. December 30 deadline will be accepted for recording on January 3, 2017, or returned to the submitter. Transactions at the County Clerk’s office will be accepted for processing until 3:30 p.m. December 30 as well. Both the Clerk and Recorder offices will be closed December 26 and January 2.

Although their administration offices will be closed, the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department will be staffed throughout the holidays to ensure public safety and emergency services throughout Marin. Road crews and flood control crews from the Department of Public Works also will be ready to respond to infrastructure and emergency needs. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services will continue to have 24/7 on-call staff though the holidays for crisis and emergency response.

On a lighter-hearted note, the Stafford Lake Bike Park near Novato will be the perfect spot to visit for anyone who gets a new mountain bike as a holiday gift as long as the weather is relatively dry over the next few weeks. Note that the bike park is closed during and after big storms. Find out about bike park operational hours by watching its Facebook page or by calling (415) 473–JUMP (5867).

The County of Marin wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!
