San Rafael, CA – Damon Connolly, who represents San Rafael and the adjacent unincorporated neighborhoods as District 1 Supervisor, was sworn in January 9 as President of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.
New Board President Damon Connolly lives in Terra Linda and respresents District 1. Connolly, a Terra Linda resident, took the gavel from previous Board President Judy Arnold in a gracious transfer of power during the Board’s first meeting of the new calendar year. Arnold, the District 5 Supervisor, completed her third assignment as annual Board President.
Also during the meeting, the Board voted to make Supervisor Kate Sears Vice President and Supervisor Katie Rice Second Vice President.
“The Board of Supervisors has created a strong foundation in the past couple of years,” Connolly said. “This year I hope to see the fruition of our groundwork with the implementation of programs and concrete action on our initiatives while keeping a close eye on the fiscal health of our County.
“I want to see the Board Chambers as the ‘go to’ place for First Amendment speech. I encourage you to come and share your ideas and views during open time and on agenda items.”
An attorney by trade, Connolly won election to the Board in June 2014 and was sworn in to represent District 1 in January 2015. Connolly, a former Dixie School District Board of Trustees member, spent seven years on the San Rafael City Council while working in private law practice and was a founding director of MCE Clean Energy. Earlier, he worked as a supervising deputy attorney general for the State of California. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the UC Berkeley School of Law.
Connolly is the Board’s representative to the California State Association of Counties, the National Association of Counties, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. He also chairs the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay and serves on other agencies and Board subcommittees.
As Board President, Connolly will preside over the Board meetings,
regulate the flow of each meeting, maintain decorum and order, speak for the Board as a whole once the Board has taken an action, and work with County staff to set agendas.
The Board of Supervisors meets most Tuesday mornings at the Marin County Civic Center’s Board chamber, Suite 330, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Meeting start times vary, and occasionally agenda items are heard by the Board in the afternoons. All Board meetings are televised live on Comcast channel 27 in Marin County and streamed live on www.marincounty.org. Videos of the meetings dating to 2005 are archived on the website as well.
