Marin Center Facility Updates

In an ongoing effort to improve the Marin Center campus, the Department of Cultural Services in partnership with the Department of Public Works is embarking upon a facilities upgrade plan to ensure the safety and enjoyment of our patrons, producers, and staff.

Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium Seismic Retrofit

Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium closure extended - Media Coverage

This project will seismically retrofit the Marin Center VMA to mitigate risks to the occupants of facility in the event of a major seismic incident at the site. The improvements are designed to elevate the structural seismic performance to a level that meets the current code standards for life and safety. Project scope of work will include strengthening of the theater stage roof diaphragm, strengthening of the stage walls, bracing of the suspended control room, and bracing of the plaster ceilings. In addition, the project will include reroofing above the theater stage and code required accessibility upgrades.

VMA Parking Lot Update 9.18.23

Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium Parking & North Campus Improvements Project

The Veterans Memorial (VMA) parking lot and north campus gateway to the Marin Center requires significant repairs that include a new surface, subgrade repairs, and new permeable drainage system under parking stalls. The work incorporates prior campus traffic studies and parking plans, provides for new Wi-Fi devices to improve campus coverage, future conduits to support electrical vehicle (EV) charging, new islands, walkways, modernized new lighting fixtures and controls, and irrigated landscape areas. These improvements will all  support the Veterans’ Memorial facilities and various Marin County Cultural Services’ events/activities. The completed VMA parking lot area will include a new asphalt surface with striping, signage, hardscape, irrigation and plantings to better support traffic, bicycles, VMA patrons, and pedestrian access.

Marin Showcase Theater Seating Replacement

This project covers the demolition and replacement of the aging Showcase Theater seating and restoration of the surrounding surfaces and finishes, including walls, floors and speaker mounting attachments. This project will include structural and electrical engineering elements.

Department of Cultural Services Office Renovation

This will provide the Cultural Services staff with improved usability and increased productivity space for them to serve the public. This project covers the restoration of the aging Exhibit Hall Cultural Services Offices. It includes surfaces and finishes, including walls, floors, new windows and furniture. This project will include structural, electrical, Information Systems, and engineering elements.
