Commission on Aging Recruiting New Members

District 2 residents eligible to apply; District 1 opening comes in May

San Rafael, CA – Interested in supporting the well-being of older adults in your community and throughout Marin County? Care about issues related to health, nutrition, housing, transportation, equity and public policy? If you’re a resident of the Ross Valley, consider applying for the Board of Supervisors’ District 2 vacancy on the County’s Commission on Aging.

The 23-member commission promotes the dignity, independence and quality of life of older persons through advocacy, information, programs and services. It serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors and works closely with the County's Office of Aging and Adult Services on behalf of Marin’s older adults, persons with disabilities and family caregivers.

Applicants must live within Supervisorial District 2, which includes Fairfax, San Anselmo, Ross, Kentfield, Kent Woodlands, Greenbrae, parts of Larkspur, parts of southern San Rafael such as Lomita Park, Bret Harte, Gerstle Park, and other nearby unincorporated areas such as Oak Manor and Sleepy Hollow.

Commissioners are appointed to three-year terms by either the Board of Supervisors or the 11 incorporated towns and cities in Marin, with two additional members being elected to serve in the California Senior Legislature.

Eligibility is open to adults 18 years and over. Persons of color and/or persons with fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Farsi are highly encouraged to apply.

For more information, call (415) 473-7185 or visit the Commission on Aging webpage.

Applications for District 1 residents will be open starting May 25. District 1 includes downtown and eastern San Rafael, Terra Linda, Marinwood, and Lucas Valley.
