San Rafael, CA – The process of implementing the California Voter’s Choice Act in Marin County in 2022 is underway, and the Elections Department is seeking public comment on its Election Administration Plan. A virtual meeting on the topic is coming up September 30.
The Voter’s Choice Act, adopted by the Marin County Board of Supervisors on May 25, 2021, modernizes elections by increasing choices in voting. It allows counties to conduct all elections as vote-by-mail elections and replaces neighborhood polling places with regional vote centers. With the Voter’s Choice Act, secure ballot drop boxes located throughout the county will be opened 28 days before Election Day, and regional vote centers will be open multiple days. Unlike polling places, voters will be able to visit any vote center for services.
The Registrar of Voters invites residents to review the Draft Election Administration Plan and provide comments through September 30. The draft plan describes voting options and voter services, voting technology, security, outreach and education, and the process of selecting ballot drop box and vote center locations. Written comment may be submitted to the Registrar of Voters, P.O. Box E, San Rafael, CA 94913, or by email.
The public may also provide comments in person during a virtual meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 30. Information about the meeting is available on the Elections Department homepage. Following the public comment period, the draft plan may be amended to reflect public input. Once final, the plan will be submitted to the California Secretary of State’s Office, which must review and approve the outreach and education portion of the plan.
Information about the Voter’s Choice Act may be viewed on the Elections Department website under the “Voter’s Choice Act” tab.
