County Reaches Terms with 3 Labor Groups

Tentative agreements reached; other negotiations, including with MAPE, continue

San Rafael, CA – The County of Marin has reached tentative labor agreements with three organizations that represent about 435 County employees. The agreements will be brought before the Marin County Board of Supervisors on July 10.

A tentative three-year deal with the Marin County Management Employees Association (MCMEA), reached on Friday, June 29, affects the wages and benefits for about 325 middle managers and supervisors. On Wednesday, June 27, the County reached a one-year tentative agreement with the Sheriff Staff Officers Association. The Probation Managers Association came to a three-year tentative agreement on June 19. All three agreements go into effect July 1.

In the three-year agreements reached with MCMEA and the Probation Managers, represented employees will receive wage increases of 2.5 percent in July 2018, 3 percent in July 2019 and 2.5 percent in July 2020. Members of the Sheriff Staff Officers Association, which reached a one-year agreement, will receive a 2.5 percent wage increase in July 2018.

The County remains in active good-faith bargaining with the Marin Association of Public Employees (MAPE), the County’s largest bargaining unit with more than 1,300 employees. MAPE notified the County on June 26 that it intends to stage a strike from July 1 through July 3.

The County’s package to MAPE members is valued at more than 9 percent over the three-year term of the agreement, which includes a one-time bargaining bonus of $1,000 for employees making less than $90,000 per year and $500 for those making more than $90,000.

The County remains in negotiations with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE); Teamsters, Deputy District Attorneys; and Teamsters, Probation Workers. Contracts with the Teamsters units expire June 30; the IATSE contract expires July 15.

Financial details of the tentative agreements are on the Department of Human Resources webpage, which is being updated regularly.
