San Rafael, CA – Nearly 63,000 ballots from the June 7 Primary Election have been tallied by the Marin County Elections Department, but about 30,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots have yet to be counted.

The first results were posted online at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday night, and the precinct count ended at 11:10 p.m. Thus far, it’s a 41 percent turnout by Marin County voters, but the Elections staff has 30 days to finish the counting and certify the election.
“Voters have been calling to ask when their ballot will be counted,” said Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts. “Along with the many tasks required to canvass the election, we are working as fast as we can to process the vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.”
Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received within three days after the election can now be processed and counted, but the staff won’t know until 5 p.m. Friday, June 10, how many more uncounted ballots will be added to the mix.
Election night turnout in most Marin precincts was 35-45 percent. One notable exception was a precinct in Inverness that had nearly a 60 percent turnout.
Until all ballots are counted, the Elections Department will post updates to the online results every Friday by 5 p.m. “We know people are anxious, so we want to process the ballots as fast as possible,” Roberts said. “We must also do a thorough and accurate job. This is most important.”
