San Rafael, CA – Marin residents and officials can breathe a sigh of relief as reports the afternoon show that the heart of the storm has mostly passed.
Though the heaviest rainfall may have already passed through Marin, high tide, which occurred around 2:30 PM, has kept flood waters high. Warnings were issued early this afternoon in the Sycamore flats neighborhood in Mill Valley – the streets between East Blithedale Ave and Miller Ave. However, as of 3:00 PM waters were subsiding. Water levels at the Corte Madera Creek are also dropping.
Several roads and highways in Marin remain closed. Westbound Highway 37 at Atherton Avenue is closed due to heavy flooding, and the Eastbound side is down to one slow-moving lane – traffic is creeping along at 5 to 10 mph. High tides have also caused flooding on Southbound 101 at the Marin City exit. The far right and exit lane are currently closed. Lanes on Hwy 37 and 101 will reopen later this evening once the tide subsides. Sir Francis Drake Blvd has reopened as of 4:00 PM. Both directions were closed in Lagunitas earlier today where a fallen tree took down several power lines.
West Marin received some of the highest rainfall in the County this morning. High flood waters caused an evacuation of the Olema campground shortly after 9 AM and the closure of Hwy 1 from Point Reyes Station to Olema. Reports came in this afternoon of flooding in homes on Calle de Pinos in Stinson Beach.
Multiple fallen trees have been reported in Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, and Fairfax. Several hundred residents continue to face power outages. To check outage updates visit the Pacific Gas and Electric website.
