New Sponsorship Offer for Marin Bike Park

Facility near Novato would be first of its kind in the county

San Rafael, CA –Another sponsorship agreement is in the works to create Marin County’s first  bike park, planned for a portion of Stafford Lake County Park west of Novato.

In an offer facilitated by the newly organized nonprofit called Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park, Santa Cruz Bicycles would offer $75,000 over the next three years in return for naming rights to the 17-acre facility’s main plaza, use of the park for one annual event for five years, assurance that the park would be open and maintained for at least seven years, and other on-location advertising opportunities.

Board approval of the sponsorship would bring construction funds available to nearly $367,000, or 75 percent of the $480,000 Phase 1 construction estimate, and 43 percent of the $850,000 total fundraising goal.

Marin County Parks Principal Landscape Architect Stephen Petterle said Julia Violich, Mark Weir and Al Baumann of the Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park were active in securing this sponsorship offer from Santa Cruz Bicycles and that additional sponsorships are being explored. The bike park, which is in its final design phase, also has sponsorship support from the Violich Family Foundation, Mike’s Bikes and Wilderness Trail Bikes.

The full-spectrum bike park will enable riders of all ages to learn and improve bicycling skills in a positive, healthy and family-friendly environment. It is slated to include a single-track loop trail, gravity-fed flow trails with jumps and berms, several pump tracks, north shore-style elevated trails, a dual slalom course, a “kids learn to ride” area, and much more.
