October 28th, 2019 Public Safety Power Shutoff Update for Marin County

PG&E has notified us that they have started the process of inspecting their infrastructure throughout Marin County at 6:00am this morning. While we are hopeful that power will be restored in Marin County as soon as possible, the process of inspecting power lines and fixing any damage from the wind before re-energization takes time.  In addition, PG&E has notified us of another possible Public Safety Power Shutoff, beginning sometime in the early morning hours on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019. While PG&E is working to restore power from the previous outage, some PG&E customers may remain out of power through the duration of this next potential Public Safety Power Shutoff.

The exact communities that will be impacted by the future PSPS have not been confirmed by PG&E.   If your area is  restored between events, we urge you to use the opportunity to charge any medical equipment, phones and other electronic devices and to also restock emergency kits.

If you see PG&E personnel in your neighborhood inspecting lines, please be kind to them and do not interfere with their work.  The faster they can inspect and repair lines, the earlier power can be restored.

SAFETY REMINDERS DURING AN OUTAGE:

SHELTERS FOR SONOMA FIRE EVACUEES:

The shelter at Marin Center for Sonoma evacuees is at capacity.  American Red Cross is operating the shelter. Marin Humane is on site to assist with small animal needs.  NO DONATIONS AND NO VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED.  Please do not bring any donations to shelter locations or show up to volunteer. Roadways and parking lots must remain open to for evacuees.

Only call 9-1-1 if you are experiencing a medical emergency (e.g., severe bleeding, chest pain, etc.), or to report a downed power line or tree which could create a public hazard.  (See below for instructions on how to contact 911 if your cell phone is not working).

Call 2-1-1 for non-emergency calls, including questions about medical devices, community resource center and charging center locations, and referrals to other social services.  2-1-1 should be your primary contact number. In addition, residents can text MARINSHUTOFF to 898-211 (or MARINAPAGON to 898-211 for Spanish speaking residents) to receive helpful information.

All questions regarding PSPS events and extended outages should be directed to PG&E via their website and 1-800-743-5000. Residents and businesses can access updated PSPS information from PG&E online at www.pge.com/pspsupdates and verify impacted addresses at www.pge.com/eventmaps.

HOW TO CONTACT 9-1-1 IN AN EMERGENCY IF CELL PHONES DO NOT WORK:

During a power outage, cell towers may lose battery power after a long period of time.

In the case of an emergency where your cell phone will not dial 9-1-1:

  1. Traditional landline phones will still call 9-1-1.  However, VoIP internet phones will not work.
  2. Fire Stations and Marin County Sheriff Substations have phones with direct connection to emergency dispatch.
  3. Find your closest local Public Safety Facility. If no one is at the first one you go to (might be on an emergency call, etc.), please try the next facility closest to you.  Marin-area public safety facilities are listed below.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you are looking to help in the North Bay, the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership encourages everyone who is interested in becoming a registered disaster volunteer to complete our application form. You will be contacted directly if/when you are needed. Please remember: do not just show up to volunteer!
