Farmhouse Renovations

Improvements to a historic farmhouse.

UPDATED AUGUST 4, 2020

Project Description

Built in the 1890s to house a dairy farm family, the farmhouse is part of a small complex of buildings at Deer Island that includes a bunkhouse and milking shed. The wood porch, pillars, and stairs of the farmhouse were rotting and in need of repair. Parks landscape architects designed a phased approach to repair damage, improve safety, and provide for potential additional uses of the farmhouse building.

During the first phase of work, new wood stairs, decking, and porch pillars were installed. New roof gutters and downspouts improved drainage to prevent future water damage. The gravel driveway was expanded to allow for additional parking, including a accessible parking space. An accessible path was installed.

Future updates will include renovating the interior to meet current building codes.
