Safety Improvements Come to Fairfax Library

Branch closure scheduled for May 15-24

San Rafael, CA – Improvements to the Fairfax Library are set to begin May 15, resulting in a closure of the branch through May 24. The Marin County Free Library facility at 2097 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard will be brought up to code for smoke detection and fire suppression systems.

During the closure, patrons can return and check out materials at other city or county libraries in Marin with their Marin County Free Library card. When the branch reopens on the 25th, new operational hours through the end of July will be noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays as work is completed on the project.

The project is being managed by the Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW). This spring, DPW crews have worked to install a potable water service line along Drake Boulevard as a prelude to the interior branch improvements. All told, the safety improvement project is estimated to cost $850,000 and is funded through the Marin County Free Library’s Measure A, a parcel tax first approved by countywide voters in 2010.
