Marin County- Redwood Hillside Slope Update

Multi Agency Incident Winds Down to Recovery Stage

The following is a joint news release between Marin County, Novato Fire District and the North Bay Incident Management Team.

Novato, CA – The hillside along the stretch of Highway 101 in Novato is now in the recovery stage. It has been reported that PG&E was successful with the install of a temporary pipeline that was in the path of the slide. Pumps are in place on the hillside as well as plans for boring operations to alleviate water accumulation.

As expected, from the recent rain, the hillside has moved at a snail’s pace, but no further impacts to Redwood Blvd. or the adjacent Highway 101.

Due to all of the preventive measures and the success of the pipeline, the incident has been deemed in recovery stage.

Redwood Road continues to be closed to the public from Birkenstock (8171 Redwood Drive) to Olompali State Park. This is due to unsafe grounds and workers in the area. Please use alternative routes.

PG&E, Cal Trans and North Marin Water District will continue work to monitor pipelines and the slide area as needed.
