San Rafael, CA -- On the evening of Halloween, the Marin County Probation Department partnered with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) K9 unit and Investigative Services Unit (ISU) to conduct compliance checks of sex offenders and DUI offenders located in various jurisdictions of Marin County.
Probation officers and their law enforcement partners took steps to assure the community was safe on Halloween.
Knowing that many children would be going door to door to trick or treat, the Probation Department wanted to ensure that no sex offenders had Halloween decorations or candy on display to invite children into their homes. Additionally, it was imperative to ensure no DUI offenders were under the influence of alcohol or operating a vehicle while families were engaging in Halloween festivities.
A total of 26 individuals were contacted and searched for contraband and weapons. Of the 26, one DUI offender was taken into custody for a technical violation. In another instance, multiple ballistic vests and weapons were confiscated and that matter is pending further review.
All in all, it was a very successful and productive evening. We are grateful for the assistance and participation of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in helping the families of Marin County to have a “Safe Halloween.”
