Día is a nationally recognized literacy initiative endorsed by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). ALSC calls Día “a daily and year-round commitment to literacy” through the world of words and learning, striving to nurture children’s cognitive and literary development in ways that honor and respect a child’s home language and culture. The common goals of all Día celebrations are:

  • to celebrate children and connect them to the world of learning through books, stories, and libraries;
  • to introduce families to community resources that provide opportunities for learning through multiple literacies; and
  • to celebrate, honor, and respect unique cultures, heritage, and languages as powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.
