Redistricting May Affect Your Election Ballot

Eleven registrars alert voters to be prepared for June Primary

The following is a joint message from the registrars in 11 San Francisco Bay Area counties, including Marin County.

#

Your local election officials would like to remind you that redistricting may affect your ballot for the June Primary and you should be prepared.

Every 10 years following the U.S Census count, district boundaries for federal, state, and local elected offices are redrawn to reflect new population data. The “new” districts take effect with the June 2022 primary elections and will remain in effect until new census data are released in 2030.

There are possibilities that the districts for Congressional, State Assembly, State Senate, and State Board of Equalization and County Board of Supervisors will change for some voters. That means the representatives in those elected offices may be different. Voters throughout California, including in the Bay Area will be voting for candidates running for office using the new district lines for these contests on the ballot. Your ballot may not have the same familiar candidate/s because of the new district lines.

Voters are encouraged to look up their new districts so that they are prepared for their June Primary Ballot.

On the state level, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission (CCRC) redraws the Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and State Board of Equalization district boundaries following each decennial census.

You can learn more about the CCRC at WeDrawTheLinesCA.org.
