Point San Pedro Road Modifications Paused

Pilot project near San Rafael on hold until parking study can be conducted

San Rafael, CA – The Point San Pedro Road Roadway Modification Pilot Project, which was expected to begin this month, has been put on pause. The pilot project, which is a collaboration between Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) and the City of San Rafael, would have temporarily restriped a section of Point San Pedro Road near Bayside Park in eastern San Rafael to test an alternative lane layout.

The County is postponing the implementation to jointly evaluate new options along the roadway with the City of San Rafael. The first step will be to conduct a parking study of the area to fully assess the existing parking conditions, which will help inform next steps and define options. County DPW is working on the study now and anticipates finishing the study by the end of June 2022.

Plans for Point San Pedro Road will continue to be a collaborative decision-making process between the County, the City of San Rafael, and the affected community. Marin County Supervisor Damon Connolly, who represents residents along Point San Pedro Road and the surrounding area, plans to hold a community meeting to provide an update on the progress of the project when additional information is available.
