County Budget Workshops Set for March 21, 23

Public invited as Supervisors to be briefed on departments’ priorities, finances

San Rafael, CA – The County of Marin will hold informational budget planning sessions at 9 a.m. Monday, March 21, and 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, to provide updates on high-priority issues and receive public feedback about proposed department workplans in preparation for the upcoming budget cycle. The final 2022-2024 Proposed Budget will be brought before the Board in June.

Residents may watch the proceedings online or watch on Comcast Channel 27. The public is invited to offer comments during the workshops (participation instructions are online). Residents wishing to comment are encouraged to provide testimony at 9 a.m. Monday so input can be best considered to inform Board consideration.

County staff will provide updates on the budget outlook, racial equity initiatives, homelessness response, and behavioral health, among other areas. Budget Manager Bret Uppendahl said the workshops are a fundamental part of the County’s budget development process.

“While a robust economic recovery stemming from historic federal stimulus has put the County on stable financial footing in the near term, it still faces significant uncertainty ahead,” he said.

The goal of the workshops is to hear community and Board feedback, including about final allocations of one-time federal relief funds from the American Rescue Plan.

The County’s budget overview webpage allows residents to view interactive charts and graphs through the budget dashboard.
