Probation Check of Sex Offenders Nets 3 Arrests

Unannounced visits designed to evaluate adherence to requirements

San Rafael, CA – Unannounced searches of 26 sex offenders in Marin County led to three arrests by officers from the Marin County Probation Department and partner agencies on Tuesday, October 19.

Two Marin County Probation officers on left and right stand on either side of a state parole officer, all facing away from the cameraLaw enforcement agencies collaborated on the compliance check of sexual offenders on October 19, 2021.

The three people were arrested because of state parole violations. They were among 26 registered and nonregistered offenders in 19 residences across the county who were checked for compliance with the terms of their probation or parole.

The searches were conducted by County Probation officers, Marin County Sheriff’s detectives, State of California parole agents, police officers from San Rafael and Novato, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 units. Members of Probation’s High Risk Supervision Unit led the operation.

“Operations like these are a critical component of overall community safety,” said Probation Chief Marlon Washington. “When they’re out in the field, our officers ensure sex offender adherence with requirements of their probation and parole compliances. Regular contact with our clients supports them as well. We can direct them to services if they are in need. The pandemic has been tough on everyone, but it can’t prevent our team from important neighborhood safety and client support efforts.”

The Probation Department’s top goals are to keep the community safe and make every effort to assist in a person’s rehabilitation.
