County Library Set to Reopen Most Locations

Select branches to offer modified in-person services starting week of April 19

San Rafael, CA – Bookworms rejoice! After a temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marin County Free Library will reopen most of its branches for express service beginning the week of April 19.

An over the shoulder view of someone reading a book, using their finger to trace the words on the page. Library patrons can resume in-person browsing starting the week of April 19.
The reopened branches will provide modified operations including Library Express Service, which allows in-person browsing and select services for up to 30 minutes per visit. The abbreviated visits, in combination with limited occupancy, will help ensure sufficient space for physical distancing for the health and safety of both library employees and customers.

Marin County Free Library (MCFL) has implemented strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols set forth by the California Department of Public Health, the California State Library, and the California Library Association. All visitors will be asked to abide by these safety protocols including wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing from others for the duration of their visit.

"After a long year of only providing outdoor services, we are absolutely thrilled to open our doors once again,” said Gabriella Calicchio, Interim Director for Marin County Free Library. “Libraries play such an important role in our community from providing information and research to offering a sense of place for creative and cultural thinking, we welcome our friends and patrons back with socially distanced open arms and open books."

Branches opening for Library Express Service include Bolinas, Fairfax, Inverness, Novato, Point Reyes Station, and Stinson Beach. Availability of specific services may vary by location and patrons are encouraged to visit MCFL’s website for hours and details prior to visiting.

Reopening dates for the Civic Center, Corte Madera, Marin City and South Novato branch libraries will be announced later.  Curbside Service will continue to be available at all MCFL locations, though service hours may change.

Other libraries operated by cities or educational institutions are developing their own reopening plans and schedules. Please review their websites for specific details.

More information about MCFL’s branch hours for Library Express and Curbside Services will be available soon at MarinLibrary.org.
