Applications Open for 2 Disaster Council Positions

Candidates sought for at-large and special district representatives

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants for the Marin County Disaster Council, which reviews matters pertaining to disaster preparedness progress in the public and private sectors.

The council also promotes disaster preparedness through communication and education that encourages residents to make their families, homes,  and communities safer from natural and/or human-made disasters or emergencies.

There are two openings, one for an at-large consumer representative and one for a special district representative. An at-large participant speaks for  the interests of the whole county on preparedness issues. Special district  candidates are required to be a duly-elected special district board member or district staff member selected by a special district board of directors.

Special districts are local government agencies that provide essential services to millions of Californians as defined in California Government Code section 56036. They are formed and governed by residents to establish or enhance essential services and infrastructure in their communities. Each special district focuses on providing specific types of services.

The Disaster Council reviews, evaluates, and communicates to decision makers and the public on all matters pertaining to disaster preparedness.

The appointing authority is the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the terms are for two years.
